Wingate Media Group has sold its Nashville Out of Home plant. We talked with Wingate Media Group President Ike Wingate about the transaction.
Ike in February you sold your non-Nashville assets to Trailhead Media. What did you sell this time and to who?
We sold our Nashville outdoor assets to Trailhead Media and our Indoor Place-Based screens to a new startup, Tri-Star Media.
What factored into your decision to sell?
My wife and I were eager to get back to the majority of our family in Northwest Arkansas and this was one of the final pieces to allow that to happen. We had a fantastic broker in Max Drachman and after such a seamless experience with Trailhead Media on our previous transaction together, it just made sense.
What’s next for you?
My family and I have arrived in Northwest Arkansas and we plan to enjoy the rest of the summer. Once school starts, I’ll be looking for new opportunities. In the meantime, I am available to consult with OOH companies that have less than 500 faces. I have spent most of my life working in or around small family billboard companies and if my experience can help someone then I would be happy to assist.

A lot of it comes down to the local regulations. Sometimes I come across regulations that say, OK if you’re going to build over this size you’re going to have to be 50 feet off the right of way… We’ve experimented with the small digital size in a case where I can get right up next to the road as long as I’m under a certain square footage… I’ve got great friends in the business that might say that’s crazy… especially some of my friends that sell structures for a living. I understand their point of view. But the numbers would disagree with that. In some cases, you can build a great sign and still be under 100 square feet and be close to the road… We used Lightking in this particular case because of the way they light up. They don’t do a triangulated pattern. They do them in a straight line. So, it made them better quality, better resolution than a 16 millimeter that was separated… I actually saw some other signs by the same manufacturer in person before we decided to buy… It’s going to pay for itself in the first 12 months… Sometimes in business the obvious things aren’t obvious. It comes down to can you get someone on there and keep them on there. If you’re having to churn people constantly that takes time. What value does your time have? If I can build a smaller sign and get 80% of the revenue but always have it full… that’s delivering the other 20% of value back to me in time.

Ike Wingate the President of Tennessee-based ooh company Wingate Media is producing a light-hearted business news program. Insider thanks Liv Brown of Camel City Posters for bringing this to Insider’s attention.
Aren’t we all looking for some good news these days – or at the least something to make us smile or chuckle? Well thanks to our friend, Ike Wingate with Wingate Media Group, you can have both. Tune in to this week’s latest episode of Good Business News and see for yourself!
At the onset of the pandemic, Ike decided to mix a little fun and find a way to help give his indoor digital network customers some extra media exposure since audience opportunities were greatly limited after a state government mandated shutdown. He breathed life back in to a “character” from his media past – Jerry Attrik, and adapted a video idea that John Krasinksi (The Office) was doing “Some Good News”, and Good Business News was born!
After producing a few episodes, Ike contacted Liv Brown at Camel City Posters about doing a backdrop for the newsroom studio screen and Liv fell in love with the concept, literally laughing out loud while watching the first episode. Camel City donated the backdrop and asked for a plug on the next show!
So here is some Good News for you today. Good out-of-home ideas come from great creative minds like Ike Wingate! “I hope you’ll be inspired by the good news of this week’s Good Business News episode,” said Brown, “but I hope you’ll be even more inspired to think outside the box with your customers on ways you can give them great exposure and advertising opportunities and have some fun at the same time!”
