We mourn the recent passing of a wonderful friend to the outdoor industry spanning more than fifty years. All of us who worked with Andy Jardien were not only touched by his honesty and good humor, but loved his uncanny ability to remember every "mom & pop" restaurant in half the. United States. Mutual friends would tell me how Andy not only knew all the neighborhood haunts, but also "the lead item on the menu." He was a man of simple tastes who worked hard each day and raised a loving family in a house located in the northeast corner of Chicago.

Andy Jardien started in the outdoor business in the early 1950s as a lease representative for General Outdoor Advertising Co. He worked a short period with Foster & Kleiser, Inc. and in 1963 joined John O'Flarity & Co. as a lease field representative. In this job he learned firsthand the nuances of almost every railroad lease issued prior to his supposed retirement in the mid 80s.

He went on to work full time as an outdoor field representative for a number of major agencies, which included Satchi & Satchi, JWT, Outdoor Services, Inc., and Grey Advertising. In these years he participated in developing a lot of business with many of us. In my book, Andy will always be remembered as one of the industry's hard working good guys. Dennis P. In 1962, plaintiff Jardien began work for the John T. O'Flaherty Co. ("O'Flaherty Co."). Jardien's job was to find suitable billboard locations along railroad rights-of-way. Once Jardien secured a billboard location and the display was installed, the O'Flaherty Co. would enter into rental agreements with advertisers for the use of the displays. Thus, Jardien basically functioned as an intermediary between owners of land and advertisers looking for suitable billboard locations. In the industry, Jardien's trade was known as "railroad land leasing." Jardien covered some 75,000 miles of rail for the O'Flaherty Co. -  https://openjurist.org/888/f2d/1151
