Dieninger Joe Nameplate

1948-2018

Joe Deininger worked for and then owned Screen-Art in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Screen-Art was a small poster-printing company compared to others but they created top-of-the-line paper posters. They shipped their work to many companies nationally. "Posterization" is the artistic process of printing flat colors to create a photolike image. Creating four-color halftone screens to silk screen print billboards was an expensive setup process. Screen-Art would hand-cut paper stencil shapes to print flat colors sometimes overlapping them to create life-like billboard pictorials on paper. This paper would later be glued to billboard faces by individuals called, "billposters". Joe worked with sheets of paper 5' in height x 11' in width. They would often save clients money by using blends of color on their silkscreen. Not all companies could pull off the great work. Their art ended up most of the time looking better than a color photo of a  realtor or motorcycle. Along the way, Joe constructed about twenty Junior Posters (8-Sheets) in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Joe loved the OOH industry and actively helped the Junior Billboard Association.
